What happens first? Initially we can discuss how you experience your problem and answer any questions that you may have. Together we can then agree on how best to achieve the outcome that you want. Your personal therapy plan will include hypnotherapy and if appropriate non-hypnotic techniques (NLP, psychotherapy) What happens in a Hypnotherapy session? Whilst you are in a relaxed state of heightened awareness, positive suggestions will be given in order to side step the conscious mind and deter it from interfering with the process of change. Hypnotherapy calls up an instinctive state instead of waiting for it happen at random. For example have you ever read a book or watched a film and been so focused that you were oblivious to everything around you. Or were you so absorbed by it that you felt part of it? That’s a hypnotic state! It’s something that we have all experienced and with hypnotherapy, this natural ability is controlled and used to help you achieve your goals. How long will it take? Each session is booked for one and a half hours, usually taking just over an hour. Some problems only need one session, for example stopping smoking. Weight loss may take two or three. Generally, most people tend to see a dramatic improvement after just one session. However, other more complex problems may require several sessions. The usual pattern is to have one session per week. What is most important is flexibility to ensure that you feel comfortable with the length and duration of your sessions. Our agreed goal is to not encourage or facilitate long-term involvement, as soon as possible you should be guided to a point in your life where you are able to make changes confidently, easily and effortlessly. Will I lose control? Do not confuse stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy, as they are completely different. Some people are less inhibitive than others and are willing volunteers. Hypnotherapy requires the client and the therapist to work together in achieving their goals. Nobody can be made to do anything against their will in hypnosis. You will be aware of your surroundings and what is being said to you. Your sub-conscious mind would not allow you to do anything that you do not want to or went against your own values and beliefs. Can anyone be hypnotised? Most people can be hypnotised. Some may remain in a fairly relaxed state whilst others may go to much deeper levels. Any of these reactions are normal, as hypnosis is a state of altered consciousness where your mind remains clear and focused. However, there are certain conditions where it is not appropriate for example complex mental health issues and young children. |
