· Hypnotherapy Your mind consists of two parts; the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind sits on the surface; this is the part of the mind that organises your everyday conscious thinking. At a deeper level, the subconscious mind deals with your unconscious actions – the things you do automatically. In the subconscious, you retain all your habits, anxieties and fears and - it is from here that all your automatic responses are generated. The subconscious mind we are told uses 80% of our brain. We are born with a completely blank page with no experiences and as such are virtually free of fear and have few desires other than the need to feed our body and brain. Yet as we pass through life’s experiences, we use all of our senses things we touch, taste, see, hear and smell these pages gradually start to fill. The things we have experienced, witnessed, and learned from birth right up to this minute has shaped us and form part of who we are today. All these memories are stored in our unconscious minds, some are close to the surface of our conscious minds and some are hidden deep in our unconsciousness. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness and works by communicating to the unconscious part of the mind that has stored those irrational thoughts, the fears, phobias and bad habits. With the use of suggestion, it enables you to be in a relaxed state when your subconscious mind is in a state of heightened awareness and is more open to replacing those negative behaviours and thoughts with much more positive ones. It has also long been recognised that hypnosis may successfully be combined with other approaches and techniques in counselling and psychotherapy. Hypnosis is a common trance state, which is a thoroughly relaxing experience. Very similar to the phase just before you drift off to sleep. |
